Bloomsbury Fashion Central wins 2017 IPG Ingram Content Group Digital Publishing Award!

We are excited to announce Bloomsbury’s win at the 2017 IPG Awards for the Ingram Content Group Digital Publishing Award. The IPG awards dinner recognizes excellence in independent publishing. According to the official announcement:

“Bloomsbury Publishing wins the Digital Publishing Award for work on Fashion Central, its new portal of content for higher education that builds on the Berg Fashion Library. It combines subscription and rental models and serves both instruction and research needs from a seamless, integrated platform. ‘Bloomsbury has got a clear sense of its audience segments and how the platform can deliver for them,’ judges said. ‘It’s a global play with thinking outside of the box.’”

Kathryn Earle, Bloomsbury's Managing Director for Digital Resources, commented: “We're absolutely thrilled to have won this award, especially against such stiff competition. We're grateful to the judges, the IPG and Ingram for underscoring through the award itself how integral digital publishing is to our industry, and it goes without saying that we are very proud to be this year's recipient.”

"All in all, Berg Fashion Library is an excellent platform that continues to grow and improve to provide relevant and interesting information about historical and contemporary fashion to its users. It is equally useful for more targeted use and for encouraging exploration, and has proven to be an indispensable research tool for both lecturers and students in the School of Fashion at LASALLE College of the Arts. We are positive that we will continue to learn from it, and hopefully also contribute to it in the years to come."

Fashion Photography Archive Reviews

"The biographies of those who are included are excellent."

"It would be appropriate for many types of libraries – those who support art and design collections, journalism programmes, retail management or even popular culture."

“I love, love, love this database!”

"The Fashion Photography Archive is a wonderful database, and is reasonably priced considering the depth and breadth of its resources.”

"If you support fashion in any way shape or form, I highly recommend this database."
- Jan Comfort, Engineering Research Librarian, Clemson University, USA

"A subscription to the archive includes access to much more than just the images, even though these in of themselves are an incredibly rich resource ... What I also love about the resource is the layout, which clearly shows you the image with details categorised to the left, many of which you can click on to access related content."

Bloomsbury Fashion Video Archive

"Another rich addition to Bloomsbury’s fashion collection, the archive is easy to search, regardless of users’ subject knowledge. Captions and transcripts support accessibility when reviewing videos, and the focus pages and designer biographies offer insight into the fashion industry, major labels, and movements. This selection is ideal for academic and professional institutions that support studies relevant to fashion (history, industry, and design) and the arts."

Bloomsbury Dress and Costume Library

“Overall, the Bloomsbury Costume and Dress Library is a welcome addition to the well revered Fashion Central platform. Given the rising interest in an object-based approach to research in fashion, this library meets the needs of the field while also making its resources accessible and useful to those outside of historical fashion scholarship.” Hailey J. Byrd, ARLIS/NA Multimedia and Technology Reviews.
